Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) -1574nm DFB Laser Diodefor CO2 Sensing

Q: How does the integrated TEC improve CO2 sensing performance?

A: The integrated TEC and thermistor stabilize the laser chip temperature, minimizing wavelength and output power drift. Since the DFB laser wavelength is temperature-dependent, precise thermal control helps maintain alignment with the target CO₂ absorption feature. The TEC provides coarse wavelength adjustment, while fine wavelength tuning can be achieved through injection current modulation.

Q: Why is a built-in optical isolator importantfor gas sensing systems?

A: The built-in optical isolator reduces optical feedback caused by reflections from fiber connections and optical components. This improves laser output stability and reduces sensitivity to external optical disturbances, which is especially importantfor high-sensitivity TDLAS and WMS gas detection systems.

Q: Can I get a custom wavelengthfor a different gas species?

A: Yes, Box Optronics provides DFB laser sources at wavelengths optimizedfor different gas sensing applications, including but not limited to CO2 (1574nm), CH4 (1653nm), H2O (1392nm), and O2 (760nm). We also support CWDM and DWDM channel wavelengthsfor communication applications. Contact us with your specific wavelength requirements and our engineering team will review feasibility.

Q: What drive and control circuitry is requiredfor this laser?

A: The 1574nm DFB laser requires a laser diode driver with appropriate current limiting, atemperature controllerfor the integrated TEC, and optionally a modulation inputfor wavelength scanning in TDLAS applications. The monitor photodiode can be usedfor automatic power control (APC).
