Basic knowledge popularization of optical fiber patch cords

In fiber optic communication systems, fiber patch cords are core components used to connect optical devices and achieve stable transmission of optical signals. This article introduces key knowledge from three core dimensions to help users quickly select and apply them.

Fiber patch cords are mainly divided into Single Mode (SM) and Multi Mode (MM). Single-mode patch cords (standard 9/125um) have low transmission loss, suitable for long-distance and high-speed transmission; multi-mode patch cords have thicker cores, low coupling difficulty, and are suitable for short-distance computer room wiring.

There are four common connector types in the industry: SC, FC, LC, and ST. SC is easy to plug and unplug, widely used for device connection; FC is fixed by screws with high stability; LC is small in size, suitable for high-density distribution; ST is easy to operate and suitable for basic optical links.

There are three types of end face polishing: PC (flat polishing, mature and cost-effective), UPC (spherical polishing, better return loss), and APC (8° bevel polishing, low reflection, suitable for professional scenarios with strict requirements).

Fiber adapters (flanges) are used with patch cords, with the same interface type as patch cords. Made of zirconia ceramic, they ensure connection accuracy and stable signal transmission, and are essential for optical link docking and port expansion.

Box Optronics provides various specifications of fiber patch cords and supporting adapters, supporting customization of single-mode, multi-mode, polarization-maintaining and other types to meet the needs of optical communication, industrial sensing, equipment testing and other scenarios, ensuring stable and efficient operation of optical links.
