Product Introduction

This is an incoherent C-band Low Flatness ASE Broadband Light Source, which is the spontaneous emission generated by a semiconductor laser in an erbium-doped quartz fiber, with 1526~1566nm spectral coverage and 10/20/30/50mW output power. Complete set of accessories included; user manual provided. It’s suitable for fiber optic device testing, FBG grating production, medical imaging, etc. Please take precautions against moisture, dust, and corrosion; it should be stored in a dry place.

Operation Steps

Step1. Appearance:From left to right- power port, ZH2.54 (3-pin) serial communication interface, power indicator LED, and single-mode fiber port for optical output.


Step2.Power Supply:The default power input port is a DC 5.5×2.1 mm interface; a matching DC 5V power adapter is included with the unit at the time of shipment. The method for connecting the power adapter to the light source module is illustrated in the accompanying figure; please ensure that you use only the original, bundled power adapter. The use of an incompatible power adapter may result in damage to the light source. Alternatively, a version featuring a power cable with a U-shaped terminal connector is available to facilitate connection to a switching power supply; however, this option must be specifically requested at the time of purchase.

Step3.Connecting Fiber Patch Cords:Remove the dust cap from the fiber connector and inspect the fiber end face; ensure that it is free of contamination or damage before connecting it to other fiber-optic components or test equipment. For high-power light sources, it is recommended to utilize fusion splicing for the connection.


Setp4.Connecting the Light Source Module to the Host PC:Use the original USB-to-RS232 serial data cable included with the light source module to connect the module to the computer. The computer requires the prior installation of a dedicated serial port driver to properly recognize the USB-to-RS232 cable; otherwise, the host software will be unable to establish a correct connection or communicate with the light source module. Please contact Box Optronics to obtain the necessary driver.


Step5.Software:For ASE light source module products with adjustable power, the optical output power can be regulated via host software; for fixed-power models, the power level cannot be adjusted.

Operation Notes and Maintenance

● Under clean end-face conditions, single-mode fibers (such as Hi-1060, PM980, G652D, or PM1550) have a theoretical power tolerance of approximately 200 mW of continuous light. Consequently, for light sources and amplifiers with output power levels below 200 mW, the output fiber connectors can be coupled to other single-mode fiber devices using standard adapters (fiber flanges). However, if the fiber connector end-face is contaminated, it is highly susceptible to burn-out the moment the laser is activated—even if the laser power is very low. Therefore, prior to making any fiber connections, the connector end-face must be thoroughly cleaned using specialized fiber cleaning tools. Furthermore, a fiber end-face inspector should be used to carefully examine the surface to ensure it is completely free of dust and contaminants before proceeding with the connection via the fiber flange.

● When cleaning, inspecting, or connecting fiber optic connectors, you must ensure that the light source is not emitting light; under no circumstances should operations be performed while light is active. Upon completion of use and after disconnecting from other fiber optic connectors, the connector must be fitted with a dust cap.

● If the output fiber needs to be connected to another fiber, it is recommended to use a fusion splicer.

● It is not recommended to frequently insert or remove the fiber optic connectors at the output end, in order to prevent dust contamination—which can lead to increased insertion loss—or damage to the fiber connector end faces.

● Please take precautions against moisture, dust, and corrosion; store in a dry place.


Quality Assurance and After-Sales Service

● Warranty Period:

Free repair or replacement for non-human-induced defects within 1 year from purchase. Paid maintenance services available after 1 year.

● Exclusions from Free Warranty:

During the free warranty period, free repair or replacement services will be provided for faults caused by product quality issues. However, Box Optronics retains the right to refuse free repair services in the following cases within the warranty period:

(1) Damage caused by natural factors (e.g., lightning, dust) or environmental influences.

(2) Malfunctions due to improper operation by the user.

(3) Obvious physical damage caused by human error.

(4) Unauthorized disassembly, modification, or repair.

(5) Altered or incomplete warranty labels on the housing.

(6) Damage or loss during transportation.
