Product Overview-Optical Power Meter

Box Optronics' Optical Power Meter is a high-performance optoelectronic measurement instrument engineered for precise optical power detection and analysis. Built around high-quality silicon (Si) and indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) photodiode detectors, our power meters deliver accurate, reliable measurements across ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared, and mid-infrared spectral ranges.

The series includes both benchtop multi-channel models (PM-MC-4-B5) for laboratory and production testing, and compact handheld single-channel models (PM-SC-1-HD) for field testing and on-site calibration. All units feature intuitive touch-screen interfaces, real-time statistical analysis (current, min, max, average, peak-to-peak, standard deviation), and USB connectivity for PC-based data acquisition and analysis. With interchangeable detector heads supporting different wavelength bands and power ranges, optional integrating sphere designs for uniform beam collection, and flexible fiber coupling accessories (bare fiber adapter and FC fiber adapter), our optical power meters can be configured to meet the specific requirements.

Product Details-Optical Power Meter

What is an Optical Power Meter?

An optical power meter is a precision optoelectronic instrument designed to measure the power of optical signals, typically from lasers, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), or fiber-optic transmission systems.

It consists of two primary components: a calibratedphotodiode sensor head that converts incoming optical power into an electrical current, and a display/processing unit that amplifies, digitizes, and displays the measured power value in units such as watts (W), milliwatts (mW), or decibels relative to 1mW (dBm).

Optical power meters are fundamental tools in photonics research, fiber optic communications, laser manufacturing, and quality control. They are used for laser output characterization, fiber insertion loss measurement, optical amplifier output power and gain measurement, and system-level power budget verification.

The choice of detector material (silicon for visible/NIR, InGaAs for NIR/SWIR) determines the wavelength range and sensitivity of the instrument.

Product Series Overview

Box Optronics offers a modular optical power meter platform with interchangeable detector heads and two host unit options, allowing customers to configure a system optimized for their specific measurement requirements:

Detector Heads

• PMS-4011-2040:Silicon photodiode detector with integrating sphere, covering 400~1100nm with a power range of -20~+40dBm (10μW~10W). Ideal for visible and near-infrared laser power measurements.

• PMS-9016-6010:InGaAs photodiode detector (no integrating sphere), covering 900~1650nm with an extended low-power range of -60~+10dBm (1nW~10mW). Optimized for high-sensitivity telecom-band measurements.

• PMS-9016-2043:InGaAs photodiode detector with integrating sphere, covering 900~1650nm with a wide power range of -20~+43dBm (10μW~20W). Suitable for general-purpose telecom and datacom testing.

• PMS-1122-2040:Extended-wavelength InGaAs photodiode detector with integrating sphere, covering 1100~2200nm with a power range of -20~+40dBm (10μW~10W). Designed for short-wave infrared (SWIR) applications.

Host Units

• PM-MC-4-B5 (Benchtop Multi-Channel):Four-channel benchtop unit with large touch-screen display, supporting simultaneous measurement of up to four detector channels. Ideal for laboratory setups, production testing stations, and applications requiring multi-point monitoring.
