Working Principle

An 850nm high-power fiber-coupled optical isolator is a passive optical component that provides non-reciprocal light transmission, allowing forward optical signals to pass while blocking backward reflections in fiber-based systems.

The device is based on the Faraday rotation effect combined with polarization optics, and is available in both Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) and Polarization-Maintaining Fiber (PMF) versions, enabling flexible integration into different optical systems.

● Forward direction: Light passes through with minimal insertion loss

● Reverse direction: Back-reflected light is blocked with high isolation

Operation Notes and Handling


ESD Protection

While optical isolators are passive devices, proper handling is still required to maintain performance and reliability.

● Handle with clean, lint-free gloves to avoid contamination

● Work on a clean, dust-free surface

● Avoid touching the fiber end-faces directly

● Keep dust caps on connectors when not in use

Fiber Handling

● Avoid excessive bending of the fiber (minimum bend radius: 30mm)

● Do not pull or twist the fiber pigtails

● Clean fiber connectors with isopropyl alcohol before connection

● Always use dust caps when the connector is not in use

● Inspect fiber end-face for damage before use

● Do not exceed the maximum tensile load rating

Power Handling Considerations
